Chennaiyin were taking on ATK FC in a fight to take home the title and thus, become the most successful club in ISL history. However, one of Chennaiyin’s officials, a photographer cum social media handler, was found to carry 24 gms of marijuana in his bag. He was booked under Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and was later released on bail later in the night.

Meanwhile, on the pitch, Chennaiyin were handed quite the defeat by ATK, who went on to lift their third title. Two goals from Javi Hernandez and another from Edu Garcia, meant Owen Coyle’s men lost 3-1 to the Kolkata side on a night that was certainly not their’s.

“We were the team that played all the football. To be fair to them they stuck to their task. They made it tough for us by banging the ball forward. The spoils went to ATK so all the very best to them. We were the team who kept pushing on, but they were clinical and we were not,” Coyle went out saying in the post-match press conference.
