India international Seiminlen Doungel is close to a loan move to Jamshedpur FC from FC Goa for the rest of the 2020-21 Indian Super League (ISL) season. The 27-year-old has found minutes hard to come by for the Gaurs this campaign, having featured for just 230 minutes across seven matches.

The Manipuri winger was a part of NorthEast United in the inaugural ISL season before moving on to Delhi Dynamos the following year and Bengaluru FC the year after. He then rejoined the Highlanders for the 2017-18 season and became the club’s first hat-trick scorer in a 3-1 victory over Chennaiyin FC. This was followed by a short spell at Kerala Blasters, after which he joined FC Goa ahead of the 2019-20 campaign. He made 14 appearances last term for the Gaurs, scoring once and assisting another.

However, this season, chances have been few and far in between for him under Juan Ferrando. He started the first two games against Bengaluru FC and Mumbai City respectively but soon lost his place to youngsters like Alexander Jesuraj and Devendra Murgaonkar. With Brandon Fernandes and Jorge Ortiz also playing on the wings in certain matches, it became increasingly difficult for him to break into the starting eleven. His last appearance came against Jamshedpur FC on the 23rd of December when he came on to replace Princeton Rebello.

If and when the move goes through, Doungel will have to fight it out with Aniket Jadhav, Issac Vanmalsawma, William Lalnunfela and Jackichand Singh for one of the attacking positions. However, with Jamshedpur losing their last three games, Owen Coyle would be looking forward to getting in some new ideas and fresh legs in order to return to winning ways. They are currently 8th on the table with 13 points from 12 games and face a confident Hyderabad FC on Sunday.
