Preview

FC Goa will be looking to get back on track after a disappointing defeat against ATK Mohun Bagan when they meet Chennaiyin FC on Saturday in the Indian Super League (ISL). The Gaurs’ winning run of two matches was halted by the Mariners in a match that was dotted with a few questionable refereeing decisions. An incensed Juan Ferrando also let his feelings known after the match with a few choice words for the level of refereeing.

However, the Spaniard will be looking to channelize that aggression into his side as they face a team that is winless in their last four games. Csaba Laszlo’s men have just five points from as many games and lie 8th on the table. Funnily enough, Goa haven’t lost against them in their last four home games. They lead the head-to-head count in the last five matches as well, having won four of them. Moreover, the Marina Machans have scored just three goals in their five matches so far while, making the task of winning tomorrow even more difficult.

Squad Overview

The loss against ATK Mohun Bagan must have been a hard pill to swallow for Ferrando because of the way the match was thrown away by his side following that late penalty. However, one area where they are fortunate is with injuries. Although Brandon did not start the last match due to illness, he should be back for this one. The same goes for Jorge Ortiz. Their defence is more or less stable and unless the head coach decides to rest someone, it should be a back four of Gama, Donachie, Gonzalez and Fernandes. Igor Angulo, Alexander Jesuraj and Edu Bedia should also feature while Alberto Noguera, Aiban Dohling and Seminlen Doungel could come off the bench.

Besides defender Enes Sipovic being a doubt, Chennaiyin FC will also be missing forward Isma. Memo should replace Sipovic while Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev might come in for Isma. Fortunately Anirudh Thapa seems to have recovered from his injury and should start this one along with Rafael Crivellaro who was on the bench for the last one. Deepak Tangri and Eli Sabia have been somewhat regular features and should once again form the midfield pivot. Laszlo will also be hoping that Lallianzuala Chhangte makes an impact in this match after a few quiet games.
