Preview

It’s the big one in the Indian Super League (ISL) tonight as hosts ATK Mohun Bagan take on Bengaluru FC at the Fatorda Stadium. This match marks the start of Gameweek 8 and promises to be a roller-coaster ride between two teams who are predicted to be at the top half of the table come the end of the group stages.

Bengaluru come into the game as the only remaining unbeaten side in the competition after both NorthEast United and Hyderabad FC tasted defeat in the past few days. The Mariners’ home record this season is exactly the same as the Blues’ away record (won 2; drawn 1; lost 0). Antonio Habas’ men also have the distinction of winning two-third of the matches in which they score first. And they have scored at least once in every match so far. Similarly, Bengaluru tend to come into their own between the 45-60th minute mark when they score 36% of their goals. They also lead the head-to-head record 5-2 against the erstwhile ATK in the ISL.

Squad Overview

After the loss against Jamshedpur FC, Habas’ side have come back well and managed to eke out 4 points in their next two games against Hyderabad FC and FC Goa respectively. While they are heavily dependent on Roy Krishna for goals, the return of David Williams is sure to add more bite to their attack. Manvir Singh is the third one in this attacking trio that Habas will be banking on. The Spaniard did revert to a back four for the last couple of games but Bengaluru’s attacking form might see Prabir Das slot into the right wing back position once again. Edu Garcia should also come in alongside Carl McHugh while the defence stays the same otherwise.

Bengaluru FC head coach Carles Cuadrat will be without Ashique Kuruniyan after his injury in the last game. He has also indicated that there might be a few changes in personnel since they played just three days ago. Rahul Bheke and Udanta should come in considering their experience and the threat posed by Krishna and company. As a result, Dimas might be pushed a little further up to support Chhetri and Cleiton Silva upfront. Kristian Opseth is likely to miss out as Cuadrat would be looking to bulk up in defence and match Bagan’s 3 at the back formation.
