Chennaiyin FC ensured a stunning victory to inch closer to their slim hopes of getting a top-four spot after a 3-1 win over bottom-placed Hyderabad FC in an engrossing Indian Super League clash at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Hyderabad on Friday. Having been placed a spot above Hyderabad in the points table, it was Crivellaro for Chennai who gave the side an early lead in the first half of the game. Hyderabad, however, looked forward to changing gears within the last few minutes, but in vain.
With already one goal pocketed in the early half of the first set, Chennaiyin players became more clinical with their finishing with Vlaskis coming in. Hyderabad certainly could have afforded to have at least two clear-cut chances but failed to convert. Hyderabad began the second half on a rather competitive note but soon saw off a gritty challenge as Chennai’s Vlaskis finished off at the far post in the 48th minute.
Hyderabad tried to consolidate the team, after conceiving two straight goals to Chennai, but not without any prolific result. Vlaskis’ side had better possession, more shots, more shots on target and more successful passes while having enjoyed the unassailable lead till the 90th minute. Then came a goal for Hyderabad in the 88th minute. Marcelinho scripted a stunning turnaround with a brilliant cross assisted by Stankovic towards a helpless Vishal Kaith. But this might not be enough for Hyderabad.
Chennaiyin is now at the 7th spot with 12 points from 11 games after grabbing three points from this match. The home side Hyderabad is still stuck at the bottom with just one win to their name so far.
