ISL 2019-20 Transfer Rumours: Mumbai City FC linked with former NorthEast United attacker
Mumbai City FC, who are languishing at the fifth spot in the Indian Super League (ISL) table right now, have identified Greek attacker Panagiotis Triadis as a possible recruitment to bolster their attacking options in order to push for a playoff spot, according to ISL Trolls.
The 27-year-old attacking mideo, who can double up as a forward, is currently a free agent and is without a club after NorthEast United parted ways with him on 30 December 2019. The move was not taken well by the fans who had taken an extreme liking to the player because of his impressive performances. Triadis was also voted as the Fans’ Player of the Season award for Best Midfielder, despite only playing for four months in the 2018-19 season.
Having played in Greece most of his life, Triadis signed for free for North East United midway through the 2018-19 season. The move made him the fourth Greek player to feature in the ISL.
Dynamic with the ball and boasting a neat first-touch, he is also known for his distribution and his ability to make decisive contributions in crucial situations. No instance is more memorable than his 90th-minute equaliser against Jamshedpur just last month.
After being released by the management even before the expiry of his contract, Triadis took to Instagram to thank the fans for their affection and support. He posted a story that read:
“To every single fan I have from NEUFC, I really appreciate all your love. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my decision! I appreciate every single one of you for your kind words and support. I read it all! Forever your Pana.”
He may as well have been taking shots towards the NEUFC management with this story who decided to release him in order to stick to the 7 foreigners in the squad rule and look to acquire another foreigner striker instead in his place.
Mumbai City will welcome him with open arms as he arrives at a crucial juncture in the season as Triadis possesses the qualities needed to help Mumbai push for a knockout qualification finish.
