Two-time Indian Super League (ISL) champions ATK FC are looking to sign Bengaluru FC's Nishu Kumar and have already made contact with the player over a possible move next summer, The Bridge can confirm.

ATK have been quite impressive on the pitch this season. Under returning boss Antonio Lopez Habas, the flying tigers have managed to leave behind two disappointing seasons, and are back on song.

Currently perched on the third spot in the league table, the Kolkata-based outfit, who are rumoured to be soon joining forces with century-old club Mohun Bagan, are eyeing numero uno position and the subsequent AFC Champions League playoff spot that comes with it. And with that in mind, ATK are already looking to strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

With the foreign player quotas being fewer in the ACL, the plan seems to be simple for the RPSG-owned club — strengthen your Indian bench, add more depth to it. The one position that ATK are looking to prioritise is left-back and Nishu Kumar, who has impressed over the seasons with the Blues, has come up as a viable option.

ATK have also made offers to Kerala Blasters' Jessel Carneiro and, as reported by Khel Now, to Mumbai City FC's Subhasish Bose.

Interestingly, though, Habas so far has used a 3-4-3 formation with Michael Soosairaj playing like an inverted full-back. Ricky Lallawmawma, the only true left-back option in the squad, has not featured once.

It will be interesting to see whether or not Nishu makes the move and also, for that matter, whether Bengaluru let him leave or not.
