Mohammedan Sporting have today announced Jose Hevia as their new head coach for the 2020-21 season. The Spanish coach has been active in Indian football for some time now since first arriving in the country in 2014 as the Technical Director for the Arsenal Soccer Schools in Pune.

The UEFA Pro License holder has since worked at FC Pune City, Minerva Punjab FC and ShillongLajong FC in their academy setups and has been a major part of the development projects at these clubs. With over 25 years of experience in coaching, Hevia was crucial in the development of youngsters who went on to feature for India in the 2017 U-17 World Cup during his time at Punjab FC. He then moved on to become a part of the joint venture between Madhya Bharat Sports Club and Celtic Soccer Academy in Bhopal. The 48-year-old also worked as the Technical Director, Coaching and Youth Development at ShillongLajong and arrives at Mohammedan with a reputation of building teams around promising youngsters and developing them even further.

With Mohammedan going through a transitional phase since the departure of Yan Law, his appointment should bring a little bit of stability with the Black Panthers of Indian football ready to show their mettle in the I-League this season after seven long years. He brings with him a wealth of ideas and experience and should be able to establish a sustainable model of player identification and recruitment at the club, but like always, all of that comes with the pressure of managing a Kolkata club which has previously proved to be too daunting for a number of experienced foreign coaches.
