Goalkeeper Shilton Paul, who represented erstwhile Mohun Bagan for almost 15 years straight, is set to join Churchill Brothers on a one-year deal ahead of the upcoming I-League season.

The 32-year-old shotstopper was a fan favourite at Bagan and had been a loyal player ever since joining back in 2006. However, with the 131-year-old club merging with Indian Super League (ISL) outfit ATK FC, he, like many others, was left without a contract.

ATK Mohun Bagan FC, as the newly formed team goes by, have a strong group of goalkeepers, both young and experienced, in their ranks and hence, there was no place for Shilton. The two-time I-League winner, though, did not have to wait long to find his new club.

Churchill, who have been dealt a blow by the departure of Willis Plaza, were always keen to sign a keeper with experience, one who could provide stability between the sticks. Shilton seems to be the perfect candidate for them.

At Bagan, he won a total of 10 trophies, including two I-League titles (2014-15, 2019-20), three Federation Cups (2006, 2008 and 2016), three Calcutta Football League (CFL) (2008, 2009, 2018) and one Sikkim Governor’s Gold Cup (2017). He captained the Bagan team which was able to break the drought and win the I-League trophy back home after a gap of 13 years.

The custodian also featured in the ISL for Chennaiyin FC in 2014, Kerala Blasters in 2015 and ATK in 2016. In fact, he was part of the ATK side which claimed the ISL trophy in the third season.
