At a time when there is not much movement in the transfer market and football clubs are mostly waiting for the coronavirus pandemic to roll over, East Bengal FC’s recruitment drive, however, is in full flow. On Tuesday, the Kolkata giants announced four new signings — goalkeeper Sankar Roy from Mohun Bagan, defenders Mohammed Irshad from Gokulam Kerala and Keegan Pereira from Jamshedpur FC and forward Girik Khosla from Punjab FC.
With this the Red and Golds have now officially announced as many as 14 new signings for the upcoming season while several others have been reported to have also joined the club.
Sankar Roy had a breakthrough season at Mohun Bagan, helping them clinch the I-League title by keeping seven clean sheets in 14 appearances. He conceded just nine goals and impressed one and all. Mohammed Irshad, as well, has been a vital cog in Gokulam’s setup and this season, he made 13 starts.
As for Keegan, the veteran left back was part of Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Jamshedpur FC’s squad in the 2019/20 season. Although he didn’t have a good season, making just 3 appearances, the 32-yer-old will be looking to regain his form at East Bengal.
