Kolkata football giants Quess East Bengal FC, on Wednesday, signed tried-and-tested forward Ansumana Kromah for the remainder of the I-League 2019-20 season, the club announced. The 27-year-old Liberian attacker, who had enjoyed a brief, unsuccessful stint at the club in 2018, is expected to pair up with Spanish forward Marcos Espada in the attacking third.

In a surprising turn of events, Alejandro Menendez Garcia resigned from his position as the head coach of East Bengal two days after losing to Mohun Bagan in the Kolkata derby. While reports had suggested that disagreement with the club officials was the reason for Alejandro's decision. However, East Bengal officials claimed that the coach had wanted to leave before the derby itself because of health issues.

As per reports, once news of Alejandro's resignation spread, the East Bengal board members held a meeting with their investors Quess Corp. to discuss the roadmap for the rest of the season and to identify potential new signings. In the meeting, Kromah's name was put forward by the club's officials.

Kromah had guided Peerless SC to a historic Calcutta Football League (CFL) title at the start of the season by scoring 14 goals. He then left for a Malaysian club in between before coming back to the city just a few days back.

Kromah has a vast experience of playing in India, having arrived in the country back in 2016. He has previously turned out in the I-League for Mohun Bagan, Churchill Brothers, Aizawl FC and of course, East Bengal. Now, it remains to be seen whether he can shine in his second stint with the Red and Golds, whether he can inject that X-factor in their attack force — only time will tell.
