The I-League encounter between East Bengal and Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium today afternoon was a must watch match. The Kolkata Derby came to an end as Mohun Bagan completed the league derby double over their city rivals. It was a clear win over with a score of 2 by Mohun Bagan over East Bengal(2-0). Irrefutably Indian football's biggest fixture, the Kolkata Derby in the I-League was upon as East Bengal went head-to-head against its arch-rival, Mohun Bagan to earn the bragging rights. In today's match, Mohun Bagan had put in a commanding performance all over the pitch as East Bengal struggled to get past the organized defence. Dicka's two strikes proved the difference in the match ensuring the much-needed three points for the Mariners. Asier Dipanda Dicka has been adjudged as the Hero of the Match for his two goals. Within the first 60 seconds of the match itself, Dicka had smashed into the roof and made the first goal. Nikhil Kadam crossed it into the box as Moghrabi headed it down in the path of Dicka who connected sweetly and solemnly. At the 26
th
minute, Katsumi Yusa nearly made it to a goal for Team Bengal; however, the assistant referee raised his flag as the ball went out of bounds during its flight. Mohun Bagan earned its second goal at the 34th minute once again by Dicka in his scissor-cut volley style. After losing the reverse fixture 1-0, Khalid Jamil had hopes that his side would produce the goods to win his first Kolkata Derby. Even though Mohun Bagan had won the reverse fixture, it was East Bengal who had headed into today's fixture as clear favourites, with the former being heavily criticized for their recent run of form in the competition. Even though, the Red and Golds have played two more matches than Minerva, a win in the derby was actually hoped to bring both the sides on equal points. East Bengal was all set to avenge their last month's defeat against Mohun Bagan. Unfortunately, they have failed this time as well.
