The All India Football Federation is all set on strong foot to ramp up its grass root level development programme of the sport. So, in pursuit of this aim, the federation has handpicked around 45 AFC Pro Licence holder coaches, who will be sent abroad on exposure trips. The overall aim of the federation is to brace up the setup in age-group football and field stronger youth teams in tournaments. Henry Menezes, Thapa's deputy in the panel who is a former international player and CEO of Western India Football Association (WIFA), was part of the technical committee meeting held in Mumbai yesterday, to discuss the future of national team coach Stephen Constantine. StephenConstantine
He told the Times of India, "The technical committee's chairman (Shyam Thapa) has already selected 40-45 coaches, all AFC A and B Licence holder. They will be sent on exposure trips to countries with whom we have MoU such as Germany and Japan. The idea is to employ them as coaches of youth teams in the future.' Henry told that AIFF intends to divide the youth set-up in Indian football into many zones and the coaches would be entrusted with the responsibility to train them. The intent is to have around 20 players in each zone. Luis Norton de Matos, who is Indian Arrows coach was also present in the meeting. Last year Matos was India's coach for the U-17 World Cup. He expressed his satisfaction with Arrows' performance so far in the I-League, considering they are playing in their maiden season with a mix of U-17 and U-19 players. After India's spirited show in the U-17 World Cup, the AIFF had asked the Portuguese coach Matos to continue beyond his tenure. His contract will be coming up for renewal in March, 2018. This well-planned initiative of the AIFF seems to be going on a right track and would hopefully see the grass root development plan with huge success. Source article: Times of India
