The lights particularly glow and shimmer on a particularly long stretch of the Arabian Sea coastline. The gushing blue waters spill themselves on the numerous white sand beaches of the pocket-sized state of Goa, as it lavishes in the splendor of a rich colonial history whose hangover has not quite left. Almost synonymous as the party capital of the country, Goa has been a haunt of the carefree wanderer. However, there is much more to this little State than what our mental assumptions urge us to believe. Recognized as a State of India in 1987, Goa houses a healthy pool of talent across its length and breadth. Aside from the teeming lights from floating casinos and the music from the pubs or the aroma from the fresh seafood, Goa has managed to hone a culture that breathes football. There is widespread popularity of the sport and it is even regarded as the State Sport. The city of Panjim is perpetually abuzz with the cheer of football on the public fields and dresses up beautifully with every FC Goa match. Celebrating its 30th year as a State, Goa duly highlighted the state symbol of football on one of the days. The football scene in Goa has been growing from strength to strength owing to the constant devotion of the Forca Goa Foundation which strives to promote football. Started in 2017 as a sister organization of FC Goa, the NGO seeks to mobilize, empower and bridge the gap between communities to uphold a positive atmosphere of growth. The dedicated team of workers provides free football coaching to 1200 youth and children in Goa. Aside from this, Forca Goa has joined hands to oversee 3827 students from festivals and 2937 students from the statewide leagues. Forca Goa encourages their participation in competitions taking place across the country where they go in representing the State of Goa. The women's branch of FC Goa who represented the Forca Goa Foundation recently brought back laurels from the Global Goals World Cup that was held in Mumbai. The Global Goals World Cup is a sporting event that is conducted all over the globe and aims to create awareness and celebrate entities that champion the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals, as well as drive progress and change in their respective communities. The grounds of Fr. Agnel Multipurpose School and Junior College transformed itself to host the World Cup. The talented girls from Goa competed with twenty-three other teams to come out on the top and crown themselves the Champions of the esteemed tournament! Having won the tournament grandly here, the girls of Forca Goa are gearing up to head to the global stage of the tournament. With dreams flashing in their eyes, the girls are looking ahead to travel to New York for three days where the World Cup will take place on a global level. Most of the girls have never flown out of the country and the very prospect of having to represent Forca Goa and the country on such a big platform in New York has kept their excitement soaring. It's a grand feat that the girls have achieved and it's a moment of incredible honor for the country to have them setting sail for New York in hopes of playing for gender equality and good health. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aljVGF-6xbw&feature=youtu.be The Forca Goa Foundation has started a
fundraising campaign
to help these girls realize their dreams and fly to New York to participate in the tournament. The money collected would go towards travel, accommodation and food requirements of the team during their stay in the city that never sleeps. With raging dreams in their eyes and brilliant hopes surging through their veins, these girls from Goa are keeping their sleep at bay too, counting days till they travel. Here is the link if you wish to contribute and take them one step closer to their dream.
