East Bengal on Tuesday defeated NorthEast United 5-3 in the shootout to reach the final of the Durand Cup 2023 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
A last-gasp goal from Nandha Kumar helped East Bengal force the shootout, where NorthEast United failed to convert twice as the home side scored all five.
East Bengal trailed 0-2 till the 57th minute, with Zabaco and Phalguni Singh scoring for the Highlanders. Mahesh Singh scored the reducer in the 77th minute and Nandha the equaliser in the 98th minute.
East Bengal will face the winner of the second semifinal between Mohun Bagan and FC Goa in the final on September 3 at the same venue.
