Mumbai City FC opened its Durand Cup 2023 campaign with a thumping 3-1 win over Mohammedan Sporting Club in a Group B encounter at the Yuva Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata on Saturday.
Rostyn Griffiths, Jorge Perreyra Diaz and Lallianzuala Chhangte scored the goals to give MCFC a 3-0 lead in the first half. Mohammedan got a late goal via David Lalhlansanga as the first half ended at 3-1 to MCFC.

A lot of energy infused into the match after the David goal. Mohammedan enjoy their best period of possession in the final minutes of the half. Mumbai lucky to go into the break without further damage.
They lead 3-1 after a first half they dominated, but as Mohammedan showed in the 5 minutes, there could yet be a sting in the tail.

A goal against the run of play! David Lalhlansanga scores with a header for Mohammedan. The crowd rises to rejoice as the underdogs get a say for the first time in the match.
There was just one Mohammedan forward, but the Mumbai defence didn't mark him. Rahul Bheke left wrong footed.

35' - Chhangte makes it 3-0 for MCFC
All of Mumbai's attacking stars get in on the action as Mohammedan look like they could do with a break. Mehtab and Chhangte combine to set up Bipin, whose header finds the keeper.
MDSC are finding no way to stop Greg Stewart in particular.
But it's the Indian wingers who combine to make it 3-0! Bipin squares it for Chhangte after a dazzling run down the left. Chhangte slides in to slot the goal in. 3-0!

Rajasthan FC had been leading 1-0 when the players were taken off with most of the 2nd half still left to play.

The pressure tells. Mohammedan manage to keep one shot out, but Jorge Perreyra Diaz is there with hours of time and acres of space to slot the rebound in. 2-0 at the halfway mark in the first half.
