East Bengal FC announced the departure of Carles Cuadrat as their head coach after the club suffered their third straight defeat on Friday.

47-year-old Bino George, the assistant coach, will serve as the interim head coach. East Bengal FC will make further announcements in due course.

Cuadrat was instrumental in guiding the Red and Gold Brigade to the Kalinga Super Cup title in January earlier this year. It was the club's first title in 12 years. He also led the team to a runners-up finish in last year’s Durand Cup.

However, he could not revive the team's campaign in the ISL.

“The Emami East Bengal FC management appreciates Coach Carles for guiding the team to the Kalinga Super Cup title and AFC continental competitions after a long hiatus. We wish him the best in his future endeavours," Vibhash Vardhan Agarwal of Emami Group, the company that owns the club, said in a statement.

Cuadrat was stressed as East Bengal struggled to win matches. In their last outing, the Kolkata side went down to FC Goa 2-3 with Borja Herrera scoring a hat-trick.

According to media reports in Kolkata, the Spaniard had expressed his hopelessness and pressure in his closed circuit about his struggle to get the team's campaign back on track. And there was a clamour to sack the coach.

East Bengal have been winless in their last five matches in all competitions, including three in the ISL.

Although Cuadrat ended East Bengal's trophyless run earlier this year, his style of possession-based game faced criticism with the team unable to convert chances.

In the post-match press conferences, too, his remarks did not exude hope, with him insisting that the team playing according to his plans but they needed to execute the chances.

East Bengal have made heavy recruitment ahead of ISL 2024-25 after making bottom-half finishes in the last three seasons.

The Kolkata-based club will play Jamshedpur FC in an away game on October 5.
