Bengaluru FC held to 1-1 draw by Army Red in Durand Cup
Bengaluru FC, one of the most successful clubs in Indian football in recent times, start their campaign for the 129th edition of Durand Cup, with their opponents being Army Red. Army Red began their campaign a couple of days back and lost to Quess East Bengal by conceding a couple of goals in the last five minutes of the match. Today, they began the match on a positive note and seconds before the half time whistle, Liton Shil of Army Red scored a goal from a low cross put by Sunil B. Bengaluru FC and Army Red plays out a 1-1 draw Bengaluru FC tried to consolidate the team, and attack right from the first minute of the second half, but not without any prolific result. It was in the fag end of the match when Namgyal Bhutia was pulled down in the penalty box by an Army Red defender and BFC was awarded a penalty. Suresh Singh Wangjam scored the all-important goal to level the scoreline. The match ended on 1-1. The day saw an early Yellow Card in the 9th minute with Yaikhom Randhan Meitei from Army Red being on the receiving end. Sairuatkima of Bengaluru FC was shown one in the 41st minute. Before the final whistle, the third card of the match was shown to the captain of the Army Red Nongmeikapam Suresh Meitei. Army Red will meet Jamshedpur FC in their next match on August 9 at Kalyani and Bengaluru FC will play against Quess East Bengal on August 14 at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan.
