Anwar Ali banned for four months, fined Rs. 12.9 crore along with EBFC and Delhi FC
The Anwar Ali transfer saga has been the story of the transfer window, and now a decision has been made by the Player Status Committee.
Indian footballer Anwar Ali has been banned for four months and East Bengal Football Club and Delhi Football Club have been banned from registering any new players for the next two windows, the AIFF's Player Status Committee (PSC) has ruled today.
In addition, Anwar, EBFC and Delhi FC have been asked to pay a fine of Rs. 12.9 crore to Mohun Bagan Super Giant, by the PSC.
The fine can be broken down into the following:
Residual value of Anwar Ali’s contract with Bagan: Rs 8.4 crore; Remuneration already paid by Bagan under loan agreement: Rs 2 crore; Other objective criteria including damage suffered by Club: Rs 2.5 crore, in total, Rs. 12.9 crore.
This concluded the controversial transfer saga of Anwar Ali, who prematurely ended his four-year loan agreement with MBSG to join their bitter rivals EBFC, setting in motion the chain of events that has led to today's ruling.
He was on a four-year loan stint at MBSG from Delhi FC when this transfer unraveled.
After MBSG claimed the player was still under contract, the parties approached the AIFF's PSC for a resolution.
On August 3rd, the PSC deemed the termination of the loan was done 'without a just cause' but allowed the player to register with his new club, EBFC, at his own risk.
Anwar was subsequently presented as an EBFC player on August 13 but will have to wait until after his ban ends to make his debut for his new club.
As per Article 34.1 (Appeals) of AIFF Regulations on Status and Transfer of Players, any appeal against a decision taken by the AIFF Players’ Status Committee would lie to the AIFF Appeals Committee within the time limits as prescribed under Article 119 of the disciplinary code.
