The All-India Football Federation (AIFF) alleged that the federation president Kalyan Chaubey had been threatened by an anonymous caller. Following this the federation lodged a complaint with the Delhi Police.

An AIFF official complained about the 'registration of FIR against unknown miscreants' at the Dwarka Sector 23 police station on Thursday.

As per the complaint, the AIFF office, also located at Dwarka, received a call on September 10 issuing "threats to the life and property of not only Chaubey but also his family."

"Delhi police has received a complaint at Dwarka Sector 23 police station and are conducting an inquiry," a senior police officer told PTI.

Chaubey was elected as the AIFF president in September 2022.

The Indian federation has been embroiled in controversies since they sacked former secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran. The federation officials have also been accused of corruption and embezzlement of funds by its former legal head Nilanjan Bhattacharjee.

Chaubey was recently seen joining a protest of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan fans outside the Salt Lake Stadium, seeking justice for the RG Kar Hospital and Medical College rape victim.

Later, he also secured bail for fans detained by the police from the protest site.

In July this year, Chaubey, contesting the Maniktala Assembly by-polls on a BJP ticket, lost the elections.
