Saurav Ghosal's journey to top 10 in the world

It's another happy tale to tell for Indian squash, first Dipika Pallikal then Joshna Chinnapa and now for the first time ever an Indian men's player in the form of Saurav Ghosal, has risen up the world rankings, to number 10. He has been in scintillating form this season, having reached the quarterfinals beating in-form and higher ranked players at almost every platinum tournament of the PSA World Tour.

The string of great performances started from the CIB Blackball Squash Open at Egypt in December last year, as the months went by, he went on to show his consistency getting great results at the Tournament of Champions, World Championship, and the recently concluded Grasshopper Cup.

While he has had his fair share of success on the PSA tour this season, all have not been hunky dory for the Indian, having had a series of losses in early rounds in the season prior to this and not a show of his standards at the Commonwealth and Asian Games, Saurav has shown what can be achieved by setting high goals and wanting to be the best of the best, something he told PSA SQUASHTV in an interview with them. This has been a long time coming for the 32-year-old from Kolkata, with a change in training regimen under renowned coach David Palmer since the summer of 2018, his efforts have come to fruition. He certainly has his eyes set on greater glory and the entire squash community wishes him nothing but the best and hopes he goes from strength to strength. While Ghosal has gone up the ladder so has compatriot Joshna Chinnapa who now sits poised at number 15 in the world, and are only two Indians in the Top 20 of the world rankings. The other Indians making a mark on the international squash circuit are Mahesh Mangaonkar, Harinder Pal Sandhu, Vikram Malhotra, Ramit Tandon among the men, while young guns Sunayana Kuruvilla and Tanvi Khanna have their eyes set on climbing up the ladder in 2019 among the women.
