Indian Tennis: Top 10 Indians at the year-end ATP Singles rankings
2020 has been a very strange year. From the pandemic to many other disasters, the world of sports came to a standstill for quite some time. But, it is finally coming to an end and sports too have gradually restarted. In whatever, little tennis that could be played during this year, the Indians shone bright. Here, we look at the players who will enter 2021 as the top ranked Indians:
Prajnesh Gunneswaran
Prajnesh Gunneswaran ends the year on a high with back to back runners-up trophy in the ATP Cary Challenger and ATP Orlando Challenger respectively. The 31 year old from Chennai will enter 2021 as the top ranked Indian and world number 128 with a total of 506 points.
Sumit Nagal
The 23 year old Sumit Nagal is one of the brightest tennis prospects for India. Sumit was the top ranked Indian player before Prajnesh replaced him from the top spot with his brilliant run in the past two weeks. Sumit will enter 2021 as world number 136 with 475 points.
Ramkumar Ramanathan
Ramkumar Ramanathan had a decent year at the top level. The 26 year old even entered final of ATP Challenger Eckental where he went down to Sebastin Korda of USA 4-6,4-6 in the final. He ends the year as world number 189 with 340 points.
Sasikumar Mukund
A 23 year old from the city of Hyderabad, Sasikumar reached a career high ATP ranking of 229 in October 2019. He made his ATP main draw debut during the Maharashtra Open in February 2020. Sasikumar will end the year ranked 297 in the world with 157 points.
Saketh Myneni
Saketh Myneni’s career has always been a ‘story of what would have been’. A highly talented player, injuries played a major role in him not blossoming as one would have expected him to be. The 33 year old ends the year as world number 444 with 81 points.
Sidharth Rawat
A 27 year old from Delhi, Sidharth mainly plays in the doubles category. He will enter 2021 ranked 455 in the world with 78 points. He had achieved a career high ranking of 430 in January 2019.
Manish Sureshkumar
Manish Sureshkumar is a 21 year old youngster from the southern city of Chennai. He ends the year ranked 651 in the world with 34 points and had a career high ranking of 508 in November 2018.
Arjun Kadhe
A 26 year old from the city of Pune, Arjun Khade is predominantly a doubles player. He enters 2021 ranked 653 with 34 points and was ranked as high as world number 328 in August 2018.
Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha
Niki Kaliyanda Poonacha is a 25 year old from the state of Tamil Nadu. He will end the year as world number 833 with just 18 points. He had reached a career high ranking of 532 in December 2018.
Aryan Goveas
A 22 year old from Mumbai, Aryan Goveas will end the year as world number 842 with 18 points. He had achieved a career high ranking of 632 in October 2017.
