Permission not granted to relaunch PUBG: IT Ministry
The re-launch of the popular mobile game Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds seems be hanging by a thread after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEITY) in a reply to a RTI said that, “MEITY has not given any permission for the launch of PUBG.”
A popular e-sports organisation Gem esports had shared the reply given by the Ministry on their instagram handle.

The caption of the post read:
The Central Public Information Officer(CPOI) has responded to the query filed through a RTI (Right To Information) regarding the return of PUBG Mobile in India.
MEITY was asked – The query filed stated:
” Dear Sir/ Mam
In the month of September, 2020, Government of India with the consultation of your Department (MEITY) banned various Chinese apps. One of which was Pubg Mobile Game. Now, there are many news which says that the game is being relaunched and the same is made specifically for the Indian Public and will not be harmful to the nation and its citizens. I would like to know if your department has given any such permission to the game so that it can be re-launched. “
– RTI filed on: 30/11/20
MEITY has responded stating:
“MEITY has not given any permission for launch of PUBG”
– Respond on: 11/12/20
This statement from MEITY means that all the speculations of PUBG Mobile India being re-launched on the 25th December has been proved baseless.
PUBG was banned by the Indian Government around two months ago citing national security reasons following the border stand-off with their Chinese counterparts. Since then there have been various reports regarding the game being un-banned in the country, but none of them have been materialised.
