One of the best and most popular Indian cricketers in recent times, Yuvraj Singh, had recently announced his retirement from the sport. Indian cricket fans will always remember the left-handed batsman for his starring role in India’s win in the 2011 World Cup, with Singh picking up the player of the tournament award for his efforts with the bat and ball. He is also famous for being one of the few batsmen to have hit six sixes in an over, carting England’s Stuart Broad to all corners of the field during India’s match with England in the 2007 T20 World Cup. The 38-year-old is set to continue playing cricket internationally, despite announcing his retirement from being considered for selection for the Indian national team.

With his retirement, Singh is now free to play in global T20 leagues and tournaments, as he will also not be appearing in India’s domestic T20 tournament, the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has already played in the Global T20 Canada and the Dubai T10 league. He remains an extremely popular player due to his dynamism and style on the field, and still has the ability to change the game in an instant. Due to this, it is no surprise that he is one of the most popular players in Canada, while some of the top Canadian online cash casinos would also want him to continue playing and appear in the league of Canada again, as they have seen betting volumes improve when he has been on the pitch. However, there may even be a chance that Indian fans could see Singh on the pitch back in India again.

Singh, who is from the northern Indian state of Punjab, was reportedly recently approached by the Punjab Cricket Association (PCA) to come out of retirement and play for the state in the upcoming domestic season, while also acting as a coach and mentor to the younger players in the side. Yuvraj is yet to respond to this request, but he has already been helping out some of the younger cricketers in the state. The likes of Shubhman Gill, Anmolpreet Singh, Abhishek Sharma and Harpreet Brar all benefited from a private coaching session with Singh recently, ahead of their departure to the UAE to play in this year’s edition of the IPL. Punjab have recently lost some of their more experienced players, who moved to other states, and so could do with Singh’s experience and stature. However, this may not be so easy, as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which is the governing body for cricket in the country, issues an NOC to retired players to allow them to play in international leagues if they wish. Singh had already been granted this NOC which allowed him to play in the Dubai and Canada leagues, and it is not sure if such NOCs can be withdrawn, to allow players to return to cricket in India.

Singh, for his part, is looking forward to playing in the international leagues, which have been delayed so far due to the coronavirus pandemic. He has also said that he is enjoying his role as mentor for the younger players in the state, and has picked out Gill as a special talent who can play for India in all three formats for years to come. He has also encouraged the PCA to set up an academy in Chandigarh, on the lines of the National Cricket Academy, if it wants to see its youngsters reach their full potential and allow the state to win the Ranji Trophy, India’s premier domestic tournament, in the upcoming years.
