Sunday, 8th March, 2020 is quite a special day for the Indian women's cricket team.

Firstly, it’s the day which is celebrated as International Women’s Day. Then, of course, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led team have a chance to create history on Sunday when they take on Australia in the final of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup. This the first time that India has made it to the finals and their first ever title beckons them.

For Harmanpreet, though, it is going to be extra special as she celebrates her birthday on the same day of the final. She is set to become the first captain in the history of the sport (men’s and women’s) to lead her team in the finals of the T20 World Cup on her birthday and if India win, it will be the greatest present for her.

Harmanpreet’s individual form at the World Cup so far has not been the most impressive and much is expected from her in the final against the formidable Australia. If she is on form, there are few bowling attacks in the world who can stop her.

Until now, India’s best-ever performance in the event had come in 2018 when they reached the semi-finals after winning all their group matches. However, they were by England in the last 4 clash.

This time, lady luck turned in their favour as rain washed away the semifinal and India made it through to Sunday’s final.

“We were hoping we’d get there because everybody’s feeling very positive about women’s cricket at the moment,” Harmanpreet said when asked if her team can go all the way.

“We’ll get a lot of attention back home because everyone wants us to play good cricket and they’re expecting us to do well. We will try to give our best. If we win, definitely we’ll get a lot of attention and a lot of love from back home,” she added.
