Rohit Sharma becomes new La Liga brand ambassador

India's fiery opening batsman and vice-captain, Rohit Sharma becomes the new India brand ambassador of Spain's top-division football league, La Liga, on Thursday.

La Liga's official Facebook page confirmed the news posting Rohit's photograph holding a bat and the ball used to play in La Liga alongside the trophy. On Wednesday, Rohit Sharma, who is himself a Real Madrid fab, became the fastest batsman and the first Indian to hit 400 sixes in international cricket. He achieved the landmark in his 354th international match across formats during the third T20I in Mumbai on Sunday.

The Campeonato Nacional de Liga de Primera División, commonly known as La Liga (La Liga Santander for sponsorship reasons with Santander), is the men's top professional football division of the Spanish football league system. Administered by the Liga Nacional de Fútbol Profesional (English: National Professional Football League), also known as the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), La Liga is contested by 20 teams, with the three lowest-placed teams at the end of each season relegated to the Segunda División and replaced by the top three teams in that division.

La Liga is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the world, with an average attendance of 26,933 for league matches in the 2018–19 season. The La Liga hosts one of the biggest matches of the world which is the El Clasico, between the famous Barcelona FC and Real Madrid. This is the sixth-highest of any domestic professional sports league in the world and the third-highest of any professional association football league in the world, behind the Bundesliga and the Premier League.
