Following the footsteps of Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, India's Jemimah Rodrigues is all set to play in the Kia Super League. On Tuesday, she has was roped in by Yorkshire Diamonds to feature in the fourth edition of the tournament, which begins in August in the UK. The 18-year-old batting allrounder has had an impressive run in her short career with consistent performances in both home and away. After making her international debut in February 2018, in South Africa, she has maintained an average of 30.40 and has a strike rate of 123.57 in her 25-T20I career. Rodrigues proved her mettle in her most recent outing in New Zealand, where she notched up a career-best 81 not out to help India win the ODI series by 2-1.
In the Women's T20 Challenge in Jaipur, she was named the Player of the Tournament after scoring 123 runs in three games at an average of 61.50. The upcoming edition of the KSL featuring six teams begins on August 6. Loughborough Lightning had also expressed their interest to sign up Rodrigues, but Diamonds got in touch with the player's management team in May and inked the deal. Defending champions Surrey Stars will take on Diamonds, while Storm, finalists last season, and Thunder will host Loughborough Lightning and Southern Vipers respectively. The previous edition of the tournament saw Indian opener Smriti Mandhana notching up a chart-topping 421 runs in her debut season, playing for Western Storm. Harmanpreet Kaur, who also debuted last year, had an uneven run with Lancashire Thunder.
