Team India clinched the five-match T20I series against West Indies on a slow and sluggish track at the Providence Stadium in Guyana where runs were hard to come by. West Indies crawled to a meagre total of 59 for 9 in their 20 overs in the third T20I and it took the hosts as many as 16.4 overs to chase down the target but not before they had lost three wickets in the process. Jemimah Rodrigues gritted it out and played a mature knock of 40 off 51 balls as India took an unassailable 3-0 lead with two games still to go.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, the West Indies side were troubled by the spinners Anuja Patil and Radha Yadav, who opened the bowling attack for the visitors. West Indies crawled to 12 for two wickets in the first six overs, which became 26 for 3 as Stacy-Ann King was bowled by Deepti Sharma after making 7 in 24 balls.

It only went downhill for the West Indies from thereon as they lost regular wickets and collapsed to 48 for 7 by the 15th over of the innings. The last four overs, where big shots and high octane action is usually visible in T20Is, saw just nine runs being scored, and it also included a rare maiden wicket from Poonam Yadav in the 17th over.

In reply, the Indian openers were sent back early with 15-year old star Shafali Verma falling for zero and Smriti Mandhana getting 3 on the board. Batting was tough for the Women in Blue as well, who scored just 16 in the first six and another 16 in the next four overs.

However, Rodrigues kept her patience intact and scored most of thee runs in the chase. She got vital help from Harmanpreet Kaur and then Deepti Sharma as India finally got to the target with 20 balls remaining.

The fourth T20I of the series will be held on 17th November at the same venue.

Brief scores: West Indies 59/9 in 20 overs (Chinelle Henry 11; Radha Yadav 2-6, Deepti Sharma 2-12) lost to India 60/3 in 16.4 overs (Jemimah Rodrigues 40*; Hayley Matthews 2-7) by 7 wickets.
