Last year whole of India celebrated the Indian women's team in the World Cup. Harmanpreet Kaur, one of star cricketers, scored an unbeaten 171 against Australia in the Women's World Cup and received acknowledgement from all. Harmanpreet is presently finding herself in a stressed out situation regarding her employment. As an acknowledgement, she was offered a DSP's post in Punjab in July last year. She hasn't been able to join the DSP post as she is not being relieved by Western Railway where she worked as an Office Superintendent. Three years ago Western Railway employed Harmanpreet with a signed contract for five years. Harmanpreet did not receive her salary for the last five months from railways as she mentioned to Indian Express. As part of the contract, Railway is demanding 27 Lakhs, equivalent to five years salary to relive her. Her resignation is not accepted yet. Harmanpreet put her papers to relive from duty last year when she was offered a job. The issued is being taken forward by Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. He conveyed the matter personally to Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal through a letter on Monday to consider Harmanpreet Kaur's case. Singh requested Piyush Goyal to take the case on a different footing as Harmanpreet is not leaving the Government job for any corporate sector work and it would be a punishment for her if the situation is handled this way. Harmanpreet also expressed her willingness to work in her home state.
Source: The Hindu Railways authorities are firm on their rules. They explained that when some player gets a job on sports quota that player need to resign before stipulated period. They need to deposit five years salary and they are free to go. Authorities also said that decision will be taken by Railway Board about Harmanpreet and they did not recall any such relaxation given in past. Harmanpreet also expressed her close bond she share with railways as they gave her job at the time when her home state (Punjab) ignored her. She could have came to media earlier but she thought it could be seen bad. She is hoping that railways will give her bond waiver to work for Punjab state. Instead of tossing the matter, Railways should take a one-time decision on Harmanpreet's resignation.
