Despite a highly disappointing run during the recently concluded Indian Premier League 2020, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were the most tweeted about team during this edition of the IPL.

Unlike their performance in the field, the men in yellow dominated the social media and were the most talked about team during the course of the tournament in the microblogging platform.

CSK finished ahead of the likes of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Delhi Capitals (DC), in that order.

An unexpected early exit from the tournament coupled with skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni's first appearance in the cricket field after India's exit from the 2019 Cricket World Cup, propelled CSK to the top of the social media table.

Though, a lot of the talk before and during the tournament surrounded around the return of MS Dhoni, it was the RCB skipper – Virat Kohli who was the most tweeted about player during this season.

CSK also dominated the most used hashtags list with three of their hashtags, #Whistlepodu, #CSK and #Yellove taking up the second, third and fourth place in the most tweeted hashtags. The hashtags list was led by #IPL2020 whereas RCB's #Playbold rounded of the top five taking up the fifth position.

As for the most tweeted matches, Mumbai Indians led the leaderboard with their matches against CSK, SRH and DC taking up all the top three positions.

The top five moments of the season was led by Nicholas Pooran's stunning save at the boundary and was followed by the return of Chris Gayle into KXIP playing eleven, KL Rahul's stunning century right at the start of the tournament, Mohammed Siraj's consecutive maidens and Dinesh Karthik stepping down as KKR's captain.

The golden tweet of the tournament was a tweet by Sachin Tendulkar praising Nicholas Pooran's save at the boundary with more than 23k retweets. CSK made it into this list as well with their tweet of MS Dhoni struggling with hamstring raking up more than 20k retweets.
