He was an integral part of the team that won the World Cup at home. Under the caption, ‘Carried on the Shoulders of a Nation’, Laureus said in its citation, “On his sixth attempt, legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and the India men’s national cricket team finally achieved a glorious victory at the 2011 ICC World Cup. India’s historic defeat of Sri Lanka by six wickets in the final was watched live by an estimated 135 million fans across India.”

Laureus launched the Laureus Sporting Moment 2000-2020 public vote, which gave fans the opportunity to choose one of the winners of the prestigious Laureus World Sports Awards.

Sachin Tendulkar is the only player to have scored 100 international centuries and he holds the record for the most hundreds in both Test matches (51) and One Day Internationals (49). In 198 Tests, he scored a record 15,921 runs at an average of 53.86. In ODIs, he scored a record 18,426 runs. He is also the first batsman to score an ODI double century. Sachin Tendulkar represented India for nearly 25 years and bowed out of the game in 2013.
