We are almost halfway into the IPL 2020 and we have teams at two completely different spectrums. There are teams who have already started to dominate and there are teams who are still trying to find out their best starting eleven. Day after day we are treated with some highly thrilling matches and some extraordinary efforts by the players. What better than reading a book to calm down your mind after such nail biting matches? Here, we bring to you a list of some must read cricket books during this IPL season:

Democracy's XI is written by a veteran journalist, son of a former India cricketer – Rajdeep Sardesai. The book at its crux brings forth the inspiring stories of eleven Indian cricketers in the post-independence era. The author's Democracy XI includes Dilip Sardesai, Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi, Bishan Singh Bedi, Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Virat Kohli. What makes this book a good read is the fact that all of these players let their guard down whilst speaking to the author. The author somehow succeeds in bringing out the most uncomfortable stories from the players, like Sunil Gavaskar talking about Bishan Singh Bedi, Sourav Ganguly candidly chatting about his episode with Greg Chappell and MS Dhoni opening up about his relationship with N.Srinivasan.

Written by Boria Majumdar, one of the most popular sports journalists in India, Eleven Gods and a Billion Indians dives deep into every Indian cricket tour since 1886. This book also gives a deeper insight and some unknown anecdotes from some of the popular controversies in Indian cricket. The author gives some detailed analysis of the backstage happenings during incidents such as Monkeygate, suspension of Lalit Modi, spot fixing etc.

A corner of a foreign field is written by Indian historian Ramchandra Guha. This book brings forward a historical account of cricket in the Indian subcontinent. The book tells the story of an Indian left arm spinner from the early 1900s, Palwankar Baloo. Baloo was a Dalit and was often discriminated due to his caste but emerged as one of the biggest match winners for India during his time. As you dive deep into the book it starts becoming a social commentary on the history of cricket in India. On the subject of the book, Guha writes, "The making of modern India is its theme, with cricket serving merely as a vehicle, as my chief source of illustrative example."

This is an autobiography written by Sourav Ganguly along with journalist Gautam Bhattacharya. From making his debut as a youngster, to becoming the captain of a powerful India side and his fallout with Greg Chappell, Ganguly opens up about everything in his book. It gives a complete insight into Ganguly's cricketing career and is a delight for any Ganguly fan.

Playing it my way is an autobiography of the God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar. Written by Tendulkar himself along with Boria Majumdar, this book gives one a peek into the batting maestro's life. Apart from his cricketing career, the book talks about Sachin's romance with Anjali, the influence of Ajit Tendulkar and Ramakant Achrekar, his love for his parents, uncle and aunt. All in all, a perfect read for all Tendulkar fans.

Written by Tim Wigmore and Freddie Wilde, this book is a T20 delight. The authors here dig deep into the history of T20 cricket, the T20 specialists and what T20 cricket stands for today. Cricket 2.0 was winner of the prestigious 'Wisden Book of the Year 2020' award. With some brilliant analysis and player interviews this is probably the best cricket book out there. A must read for anyone who wants to have a better understanding of the dynamics of T20 cricket.
