After losing in the finals of the 50-over World Cup in 2017 by just nine runs, the Indian fans were forced to sit up and take notice of players like Smriti Mandhana and Deepti Sharma, who showed great potential on the big stage. Since then, the women's cricket team have managed to inspire with their consistent showings in the last few months. While they reached the semis of the T20 World Cup in 2018 held in West Indies, the team further proved their might when they whitewashed the Windies Women 5-0 in November 2019 in a T20I series.
The increasing craze for the side is evident in the demand for tickets for the multi-national event, with travel companies further adding that women travelers are keen to visit the country and cheer for the Indian team at the World Cup. This has encouraged at least 20 travel agents to launch women-only tours for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, with other agents hopeful that the bookings will rise as the event draws nearer.
Tourism Australia, had, earlier, started a campaign called #LedByWomen (#LBW) to help promote the tournament and encourage more spectators and fans to cheer for their teams Down Under.
Though the bookings in India had earlier been dampened due to the bushfires that had ravaged Australia at the start of the year, the excitement for the event now is at an all-time high.
The men's T20 World Cup is also slated to be held in Australia from October this year, but the excitement of the Indian fans to travel to the country and support the Women in Blue instead is inspiring and will go a long way in boosting the morale of the side as they look to clinch their maiden T20 title.
