An all-round performance from India B thrashed India A by 35 runs in the fourth match of the Senior T20 Challenger Trophy at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday (January 7). With this win, they have secured the place in the final of the tournament.

India B won the toss and opted to bat first. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Vanitha VR got off to a flying start with their free-flowing batting. Mandhana took the onus and started punishing all the bowlers over the park. She smashed a six off Mansi Joshi in the first over.

With Mandhana smashing at one end, Vanitha held another end. However, Vanitha too joined her with timely boundaries. The duo stitched 58 runs within 7 overs on a flat surface before the left-arm spinner Radha Yadav dismissed Mandhana who tried to hit big but ended up giving a catch to Sneh Rana at the point.

Although Vanitha continued to play some big shots, her innings came to an end in the 11th over by Joshi. Vanitha tried to hit Joshi's length delivery towards the third man but gave an easy catch to Taniya Bhatia behind the wickets. However, it wasn't a good day for Jemimah Rodrigues who managed to score only 20.

But the youngster Richa Ghosh (22) impressed everyone in her 17-ball knock. Later a couple of boundaries from Shikha Pandey (14*) and Pooja Vastrakar (15*) helped India B posted a decent total of 139 for 4. Sneh Rana took 2 scalps for India A.

Chasing 140, India A made a change in their opening combination. They sent Bhatia to open along with Priya Punia. Bhatia set her eyes in no time and hit a full, wide delivery from Pandey over the point region for a boundary. She smashed another one behind square on the off-side before Anuja Patil put up a brake on it.

Devika Vaidya failed to impress with the bat whose batting was cut short by Mandhana at the extra cover. Vaidya smashed a full-length delivery off Patil while Mandhana dived her right to take a stunner.

All hopes were on the captain Harmanpreet Kaur but she failed to score big and got out off Pooja Vastrakar while trying to hit to down the leg-side. Her dismissal left India A struggling at 50 for 3. From there, the side didn't return in the winning zone as India B started taking wickets on regular intervals.

While Sushree Dibyadarshini took two wickets in two balls, Deepti Sharma's rather slow innings in the middle-order failed to take the team to the finish line. Eventually, India A ended at 104 for 7. For India B, Dubyadarshini and Patil bagged two wickets each.

Brief Scores: India B 139-4 in 20 overs (Smriti Mandhana 34; Sneh Rana 2/26) beat India A 104-7 in 20 overs (Priya Punia 34; Sushree Dibyadarshini 2-18) by 35 runs.
