Many doesn't know but Ahsan Raza from Pakistan was the umpire for the ICC Women's T20 World Cup finals in Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground(MCG). While everyone seemed to focus on the host nations win for the fifth time, Raza deserves his share of encouragement after what had happened to him in 2009.

The umpire was among those who were attacked during the Lahore attack on the Sri Lankan team in 2009. He endured two bullets in the attack and went into coma. He made his return after nearly 11 years and that took a lot of courage from him.

“My wounds have healed but whenever I look at them I remember the gruesome incident. Whenever someone mentions that incident I request him not to remind me of that tragedy,” Raza had said in an interview to AFP.

With this incident, cricket was suspended in Pakistan but a few months before Sri Lanka toured them for PSL and successfully broke all the barriers.

He was due of umpiring in the semi-final clash between India and England but that match never took place due to rain. Apart from Raza, Kim Cotton from New Zealand was also the umpire for the match. She was the first women to umpire the final of a major cricket tournament.
