Coronavirus: Sports Stars come out in support of PM Narendra Modi's #5April9PM9Minutes appeal

The Indian sports fraternity has come out in support of PM Narendra Modi's call to switch off light for 9 minutes at 9 PM on April 5 to show India's solidarity in its fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative of switching off the lights and lighting a candle or using flashlights to show solidarity in fight against coronavirus pandemic has been appreciated by many Indian sports stars. Most of them have have come forward in support of this initiative.

India's top wrestler and World Number 2 Bajrang Punia has stepped up in the support of PM's initiative and appealed everyone to be a part of this act with their families.

Indian women's cricket team captain Mithali Raj has also came out in support of this initiative as she wrote on her twitter that "I will be lighting diyas for 9 mins to stand in solidarity with every Indian in honour and response to the Hon'ble PM's call to pray for courage and hope and defeat despair brought on by the pandemic."

Indian boxer Manoj Kumar is also one among the many who came out in support of resting residential lights for 9 minutes and lighting candles and lamps or torch. He said, "We have to fight corona, and make India win."

Sports Minster shared a lit-up image of Indian map on twitter of India and wrote a poem by Rabindranath Tagore "Ah, the light dances, my darling, at the center of my life; the light strikes, my darling, the chords of my love; the sky opens, the wind runs wild, laughter passes over the earth", in support of the initiative.

Indian wrestler Geeta Phogat who has been on a break for a long time now took to twitter to express her support for the 9pm activity. She posted her video of herself saying, "I will come out in support of PM Modi and expect all of you do the same for the pride of the nation."

Watch Indian boxer Amit Panghal who had won hearts by winning a silver in the World Championships last year come out in support of lighting candles and lamps in support of unification.
