Commonwealth Games 2026 Day 9: Neeraj Chopra wins javelin silver, 10 boxers reach finals - Highlights

After another successful outing that saw Lovepreet Singh and Seema Kaliramna add silver and bronze, respectively, to India's medal tally, the country's athletes return for a crucial Day 9 at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow.
On Friday, India scripted history in the men's javelin throw at the 2026 Commonwealth Games as Neeraj Chopra and Yashvir Singh clinched silver and bronze respectively, securing the country's first-ever double podium in the event.
Meanwhile, Tejaswin Shankar bagged his first-ever Decathlon medal for India, winning a bronze medal despite struggling with an injury before the start of his event.
On the other hand, Asmita Dey (Women's 48Kg) and Harsh Singh (Men's 60Kg) became the first-ever Indian judokas to win a CWG gold medal. Yamini Mourya (57Kg) won the silver medal.
In addition, all ten Indian semi-finalists in boxing won their respective bouts and will fight for Gold on Saturday.

Boxing, Men's 55kg SF: Jadumani Singh WINSSS!
Early attack from Haoseb as he lands a few punches. Jadumani lands a couple cleanly on the counter to return the favour.
This is quality boxing from the two in the ring. Just a minute-and-a-half left in the contest and the intensity is yet to drop. Both still very much quick, trading heavy blows.
Has Haoseb managed to overturn his deficit in the final round?
He does manage to win the final round on 3-2 split, but he hasn't overturned the deficit. Jadumani Singh will also move into the Final for India!

Boxing, Men's 55kg SF: Jadumani takes Round 2
Yeah, the start to the second is similar to the first. Both boxers dancing around, throwing punches in between. Some lands and some others don't.
The Namibian is now getting too focused on just being on the attack. Jadumani is moving around the ring. When will the Indian throw his weight on the punches.
With 30s second, Jadumani goes at it and then there's a big swing and a miss in the final ten seconds.
The Indian a bit more circumspect in that round than compared to the first.
But the result is identical. Jadumani takes it 2-0 unanimously.

A fast paced start to the contest with both pugilist willing to attack. Both are quick on their feet and Jadumani finally seems to have met someone who can match his speed in Glasgow.
The Indian can't win this bout on his speed alone is very clear after the first two minutes. He'll have to out-punch the Namibian.
A very close first round in my eyes. Back and forth exchanges. But we'll wait for what the judges have to say.
Well, they say it was Jadumani's round. 5-0 unanimously!

Jadumani Singh is the next Indian boxer in action. He is up against Philip Haoseb of Namibia in men's 55kg semi-final.
A medal already assured for Jadumani, he'll hope to join his country mates in the fight for gold.

Boxing, Women's 70kg: Arundhati into the Final!
Eccles pushes Arundhati down to the ring and the referee has to intervene. The Indian is pissed now.
But she calms down rather quickly and runs around the ring with a smirk even as Eccles tries to hunt her down.
Arundhati doing the smart work of slowing the bout down with the lead she has.
Eccles, the defending champion getting a bit desperate now as she starts throwing everything she has at Arundhati.
As the bell sounds, both boxers have their hands up in air. Who's got this?
It is Arundhati Choudhary. Eccles did her best to win the final round 4-1 on split, but it isn't enough to take down the Indian.
Arundhati will compete for gold!

Boxing, Women's 70kg: Arundhati wins Round 2
Arundhati has Eccles cornered and she takes full advantage landing a few clean blows. Both boxers looking to go on the offensive and this seems to be getting ugly now.
Blows exchanged back and forth throughout the round. The Welsh pugilist is frustrated, but Arundhati somehow still has a smile on her face.
The judges once again call it unanimously in favour of Arundhati!

Boxing, Women's 70kg SF: Arundhati wins Round 1
As has been the case today so far, its the Indian happy to sit back as Rosie just jumps onto Arundhati, who is in the red corner.
The Welsh pugilist has succeeded in landing a few punches despite Arundhati's quick footwork. The Indian has also managed to retaliate, but not sure if its enough as of yet to sway the judges.
Arundhati bounces back well to land a few punches of her own.
She takes the opening round 5-0 unanimously
