Commonwealth Games 2026, Day 7: Dilip Gavit wins gold; silver for Sreeshankar

The track and field events continued to rake in medals for India at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, as the nation bagged three medals in Glasgow on Wednesday.
Murali Sreeshankar opened the tally on the day, winning the silver medal in men's long jump with a leap of 8.09m.
Minutes later, Dilip Gavit and Mohammed Basil followed in men's 100m T47, completing a double podium for India.
While Gavit clocked 10.71s for the gold medal, Basil finished the race in 10.83s in what was a historic first of the country.
Meanwhile, Parul Chaudhary finished fifth in women's 3000m steeplechase with a timing of 9:26.75.
Elsewhere in the shot put arena, it was heart break for Manpreet Kaur, who finished fourth with a 17.49m throw.
Manpreet was in the bronze medal position heading into the final round before she got leapfrogged by Lloydricia Cameron of Jamaica who eventually finished third with a 17.89m throw.
Yashas Palaksha and Santhosh Tamilarasan both made it to the men's 400m hurdles finals as the only two non-automatic qualifiers, whereas Lokesh Sathyananth finished fifth behind Sreeshankar in men's long jump.
10 medals in Boxing
In the boxing ring, Indian boxers secured themselves ten medals from the competition.
Sakshi Chaudhary started the day with a win over Caitlin Fryers of Northern Ireland in women's 51kg to move into the semi-finals, before Arundhati Choudhary took down Morgan Henderson in women's 70kg quarter-finals.
Sachin Siwach (men's 60kg), Ankush Panghal (men's 80kg) and Narender Berwal (men's +90kg) all followed suit before Jaismine Lamboria (women's 57kg) extended India's winning streak on the day inside the boxing ring.
All of them joined Lovlina Borgohain, Jadumani Singh, Priya Ghanghas, and Preeti Pawar in the semi-finals to assure India of medals.
Suyash finishes fourth
Meanwhile in the swimming pool, Suyash Jadhav finished a heart breaking fourth, clocking 31.63s in men's 50m freestyle S7.
Chaitanya Kulkarni finished fifth in the same event with a timing of 31.63.
Aryan Nehra's struggles also continued as he finished seventh in men's 1500m freestyle with a timing of 15:36.25.
In weightlifting, Sanjana came up flop, failing to register a single successful snatch lift in women's 77kg.
