India ended Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 with its first medal of the Games after Jhandu Kumar clinched bronze in the men's heavyweight para powerlifting event.
Earlier in the day, Ashok narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the men's lightweight final with a personal-best lift of 200kg, while Paramjeet Kumar placed seventh. In the women's lightweight events, Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi finished sixth and seventh respectively, while Kasthuri Rajamani was unable to register a successful lift in the women's heavyweight final.
India also remained in action across swimming, artistic gymnastics, bowls and boxing as the campaign gathered momentum in Glasgow.

Para Powerlifting, Men's Lightweight Final A: Ashok Malik lifts 195kg, climbs to second!
India's Ashok Malik successfully cleared 195kg on his attempt, earning 140.2 points in the Men's Lightweight Final A.
The lift moves Ashok into second place in the standings, while compatriot Paramjeet Kumar slips to third with 135.6 points as the competition continues.

Para Powerlifting, Men's Lightweight Final A: Paramjeet Kumar opens with a successful 176kg lift
India's Paramjeet Kumar successfully lifted 176kg in the Men's Lightweight Final A, earning 135.6 points.
The effort moves the Indian into second place in the standings for now, with the competition still underway and more lifts to come.

Artistic Gymnastics, Men's Team Final: India scores 36.050 in the Rings Programme
Indian gymnasts had a good outing in the Rings programme, scoring their best total so far among the three rotations.
Swathish K.P was the highest scorer for India, scoring 12.450 points, followed by Tapan Mohanty (12.100) and Yogeshwar Singh (11.500).
The fourth gymnast, Tapeswaranath Das, also had his best performance of the day, scoring 11.100 points, but it will not be counted for the team event, being the lowest of the four scores.
India still has the highest score among the teams that have completed the Rings Programme.
In rotation-4, India will move to their favourite event and is expected to be their highest-scoring apparatus, i.e Vault, with Tapan Mohanty to start the programme.

Artistic Gymnastics, Men's Team Final: India scores 31.250 points from the Pommel Horse
Yogeshwar Singh was the highest scorer for India, scoring 11.100 points, followed by Swathish K.P (10.300) and Tapan Mohanty (9.850).
Meanwhile, Tapeswaranath Das had a fall and hence scored only 7.200 points, which will not be counted for the team event, being the lowest of the four scores.India's combined total of 31.250 in Pommel Horse is also currently the best among the two teams that have completed the floor exercise program.
In rotation-3. India will move to the third apparatus, i.e Rings, with Tapan Mohanty to start the program.

Artistic Gymnastics, Men's Team Final: There are 10 teams in the final
India has never won a medal in the team event of Artistic Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games. Last time, the Indian men's team team has finished 8th with a total of 108.900 points.
Yogeshwar Singh is the only player in this team who competed at the 2022 Games.
India will start with floor exercise in Rotation-1: Tapan Mohanty to start

The Indian men’s team, comprising Tapan Mohanty, Yogeshwar Singh, Tapeswarnath Das, and Swathish K.P, will compete in Subdivision-2 of the Men’s Team Final.
There are three subdivisions, and the top three teams across all subdivisions (based on the highest aggregate scores) will win the medals, as there is no qualification round.
Each subdivision consists of six rotations. In every rotation, the team performs on one apparatus, with the scores of the three best athletes combined to determine the team’s score on that apparatus.

Swimming, Men’s 50m Backstroke: Srihari qualifies for semis
Srihari qualified for the semifinal with a time of 25.52s. He finished fifth in his heat and 14th overall.
Top 16 swimmers qualify for the semis. South Africa’s Pieter Coetze sunk 16-year-old championship record clocking 24.45s.
The semifinalists will return to the pool at 12:29 AM.

Judo, Women's +78kg: Tulika Maan provisionally suspended
Yes you read that right! Commonwealth Games silver medalist Tulika Mann has been withdrawn from the Glasgow edition.
The Indian judoka was handed a provisional suspension by the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) for three whereabouts failures in the last 12 months. She won a silver in women’s +78kg category at 2022 Birmingham and was a bright medal prospect.
