India ended Day 2 of the Commonwealth Games 2026 with its first medal of the Games after Jhandu Kumar clinched bronze in the men's heavyweight para powerlifting event.
Earlier in the day, Ashok narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing fourth in the men's lightweight final with a personal-best lift of 200kg, while Paramjeet Kumar placed seventh. In the women's lightweight events, Jaspreet Kaur and Suman Devi finished sixth and seventh respectively, while Kasthuri Rajamani was unable to register a successful lift in the women's heavyweight final.
India also remained in action across swimming, artistic gymnastics, bowls and boxing as the campaign gathered momentum in Glasgow.

Jhandu Kumar wins bronze, opens India's medal account!!!
Jhandu Kumar has won India's first medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, claiming the bronze medal in the Men's Heavyweight Para Powerlifting event.
Jhandu finished with 130.9 points from his best successful lift of 190kg, behind Nigeria's R. Idris (132.8 points) and England's M. Harding (131.0 points), to secure a place on the podium and open India's medal account in Glasgow.

Para Powerlifting, Men's Heavyweight Final A: Sudhir misses 211kg on final attempt!
India's Sudhir was unsuccessful in his third and final attempt at 211kg in the Men's Heavyweight Final A.
The lift was ruled a 'No Lift', meaning the Indian finished with a best successful lift of 183kg (114.1 points). He now awaits the remaining results to determine his final placing.

Para Powerlifting, Men's Heavyweight Final A: Sudhir clears 183kg to move into fifth!
India's Sudhir comfortably cleared 183kg in his second attempt in the Men's Heavyweight Final A.
The successful lift earned him 114.1 points, moving the defending Commonwealth champion into fifth place with one final attempt remaining.

India's Jhandu Kumar was unsuccessful in his third and final attempt at 196kg in the Men's Heavyweight Final B.
The lift would have set a new Commonwealth Games meet record and matched the gold medal-winning mark from Birmingham 2022, but it was ruled a 'No Lift'.
Jhandu finishes with a best successful lift of 190kg (130.9 points) and now awaits the remaining results to confirm his final placing.

India's Jhandu Kumar made a positive start in the Men's Heavyweight Final B, successfully lifting 181kg in his opening attempt.
The lift earned him 124.7 points, giving the Indian a solid platform with two attempts still to come.
