With barely over 20 days left for the sporting extravagenza at Gold Coast to begin, the Table Tennis Federation of India has announced the squad that will be travelling to Australia to compete with the best of the Commonwealth in hopes for the medal. According to our sources in TTFI, the list that has been released poses little surprise to those following the World Table Tennis circuit closely. Indeed in the recent past, Indian table tennis has risen to new heights thanks to the dynamic performances by youngsters and veterans alike. As such, the contingent includes an interesting mix of names. While Achanta Sharath Kamal, India's Table Tennis veteran has been included among the men, we also see names like Anthony Amalraj, Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai.

Looking back on 2017: Soumyajit Ghosh and Anthony Amalraj with a rare win The current top ranked Indian paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran books a predictable berth at Gold coast owing to the magnificent run he has been on last season. Sathiyan is, at present, the only Indian to be included in the World Top 50 after he became only the second Indian to achieve that feat earlier this year. Manika Batra and Mouma Das take up two spots among the women which should come as no surprise to anyone. 2017 had seen them reach the semi-finals for the first time at an ITTF World Tour (Major). Doing so, they also became the first Indian Doubles pair to reach the last 8. That finish came after getting a walkover earlier on in the tournament.
2014 Youth Olympics member Sutirtha Mukherjee's inclusion is credible as well given her recent form in the National circuit. She had defeated veteran and Indian Olympian Manika Batra in the in the summit clash of the 11Sports National Ranking Championships back in November to lift her second title of the season. Member of the Indian National Women's Table Tennis Team for the 2016 World Team Table Tennis C'ships Pooja Sahasrabudhe along with Madhurika Patkar completes the women's squad. Here is a complete list of the official Table Tennis contingent bound for Gold Coast, 5 men and 5 women: Men: Achanta Sharath, Anthony Arputharaj Amalraj, Harmeet Desai, Soumyajit Ghosh, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran Women: Manika Batra, Mouma Das, Sutirtha Mukherjee, Madhurika Patkar, Pooja Sahasrabudhe Officials: Massimo Costantini, Soumyadeep Roy, Mahinder Singh
