In a fitting finale to the second season of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League (GCL), the Triveni Continental Kings once again emerged victorious, successfully retaining their trophy.

Over 10 days of electrifying action, they faced off against the season’s top team, the PBG Alaskan Knights, and triumphed to reclaim their championship title in a thrilling finale.

Last year, the Triveni Continental Kings claimed the top spot in the league, surprising their opponents in a fiercely contested finale.

The PBG Alaskan Knights had dominated throughout the season, leading the table throughout the competition, but they faltered when it mattered the most as the Kings turned the tables in the final moments and executed the crucial plays to change the narrative and secure the victory.

A Global Chess Showcase

The GCL continues to push the boundaries of chess competitively featuring world-class talent in an intense, high-stakes environment. This year's tournament brought together top players from around the world.

As one can imagine, the league saw continuous high-octane energy throughout, delivering a dynamic chess spectacle that thrilled both the fans and players alike.

Notable performances from Alireza Firouzja, Nihal Sarin, Raunak Sadhwani, and Volodar Murzin set the tournament alight.

Firouzja, in particular, emerged as a standout, defeating established grandmasters such as Magnus Carlsen, Viswanathan Anand, Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, and Hikaru Nakamura. His brilliance on the board was a key highlight of the league.

Players of the Tournament

India’s Nihal Sarin impressed with his tactical brilliance, advancing steadily throughout the tournament and eventually earning ‘Player of the Tournament’ title.

His sharp strategies and consistent performance underscored his rise as a future chess star.

Meanwhile, on the women’s front, Alina Kashlinskaya of PBG Alaskan Knights was a force to be reckoned with.

Despite her team’s loss in the final, she was crowned ‘Player of the Tournament’ for her exceptional play, adding to the excitement of this one-of-a-kind event in chess.

Other notable female players, including Tan Zhongyi, Alexandra Kosteniuk, and Valentina Gunina, also delivered outstanding performances, displaying great determination on the board.

Global Chess League: A Platform for Excellence

Once again the GCL has delivered on its promise to celebrate global chess talent at its highest level and in so doing, the world has fresh memories that will last forever.

As talent worldwide flocks to the league, it remains a beacon for growing and advancing chess at all levels, while providing fans with an incredible mix of elite competitors such as grandmasters of the game and up-and-comers of the chess world.

Looking at the future, the triumph of Global Chess League’s second season represents another significant achievement for the event as it continues its efforts at worldwide expansion, growing the popularity of chess and ultimately bodes well for future editions, only to get more exciting.
