FIDE Women’s Grand Prix: Another round of draws for Humpy and Deshmukh
Both the Indian women failed to post victories in round-8 of Shymkent 2024.
In round-8 of the FIDE Women’s Grand Prix – Shymkent 2024 on Thursday, India’s GM Koneru Humpy and IM Divya Deshmukh settled for draws.
While the former drew her game against GM Alexsandra Goryachkina, the latter was held by IM Stavroula Tsolakidou.
Top-two finish unlikely
Both Humpy and Deshmukh picked up 0.5 points each with the drawn outcomes.
This is the second consecutive draw for both Indian players, having previously draw their games in round-7 as well.
After eight-rounds, GM Alexsandra Goryachkina leads the points table with 6.5 points. GM Tan Zhongyi is hot in her heels and in 2nd spot with 5.5. points.
Koneru Humpy and Divya Deshmukh, meanwhile, are in 5th and 6th spots respectively with 4 points apiece.
With just one more round remaining, a title victory is an unlikely outcome for both the Indians.
