Indian Grandmaster (GM) R Vaishali suffered a consecutive loss in round six at the FIDE Tbilisi Grand Prix 2024 in Georgia.

Despite her best efforts, a series of unforced errors increased her vulnerability, allowing her opponent International Master (IM) Alina Kashlinskaya of Poland to capitalise on her mistakes.

This was Alina’s first win of the tournament, and she was the sole winner in Round 6 placing her in the joint first position along with four other women, including GM Nana Dzagnidze of Georgia, GM Mariya Muzychuk of Ukraine, IM Stavroula Tsolakidou of Greece, and IM Bibisara Assaubayeva of Kazakhstan. Each of these players has 3.5 points after the end of the six rounds.

Following her second consecutive loss, Vaishali is in 10th position in the leaderboard.

In another closely contested match, GM Nana Dzagnidze was on the brink of her second consecutive win. But a lapse in maintaining her advantage allowed IM Bibisara Assaubayeva to escape with a draw.

Vaishali, facing a challenging tournament so far, will look to bounce back in her upcoming match against GM Anna Muzychuk of Ukraine in Round 7.
