In a shocking incident, a 28-year-old man from Kerala, VH Vineeth, committed suicide on December 31, after falling into a debt trap because of his addiction of playing online Rummy.

A native of Kuttichal in the state capital of Tiruvananthapuram, Vineeth was a contract employee of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). This incident happened just days after his father, Velayudhan Pillai was elected to the Kuttichal Gram Panchayat after the recently concluded local body polls in Kerala.

According to reports in various media portals, Vineeth had incurred losses upto INR.21 lakhs while playing online rummy. It is also alleged that the youngster had borrowed money from banks and friends to support his addiction of playing the game.

The officers investigating the case maintained that though Vineeth had huge debts, he wasn’t harassed by anyone to repay the money. He used to play after linking his bank account to the game. The police is expected to examine his banking transactions as part of the investigation.
