India Seniors bridge team claimed a silver medal at the 16th World Bridge Olympiad, wrapping up a fierce two-day, 96-board final with a 165-258 defeat to the USA.

Held in Buenos Aires, this was a challenging face-off with six segments that saw the two teams nearly tied after the first two rounds.

However, the USA pulled ahead decisively in the third segment, scoring 53-7 IMPs, and maintained their lead despite India’s determined comeback efforts.

The Indian squad comprised seasoned players Kamal Mukherjee, Vibhas Todi, Badal Das, Pranab Bardhan, Arun Bapat, Ravi Goenka, and non-playing captain Girish Bijoor.

Their resilience and strategy throughout the competition earned them commendation from bridge enthusiasts worldwide.

In addition to the team event, the young Indian duo Sanjit Dey and Binod Shaw turned heads in the pairs events, where they emerged as top performers in both categories, marking a successful debut in international bridge.

The tournament highlighted India's growing strength in bridge and reinforced its position in global bridge competitions.
