The silver jubilee edition of the BWF World Badminton Championships is around the corner and the fans are waiting with baited breaths to catch their favourite shuttlers live in action. While the Indian players have enjoyed a chequered past, they will be going in a with a renewed spirit to better the silver and bronze medals into the coveted yellow metal and stake their claim as a badminton powerhouse. As the nation gears up to witness this seven day-long badminton carnival, here’s all you need to know ahead of the mega sporting extravaganza. https://twitter.com/bwfmedia/status/1162257686181941248

Schedule

The seven-day tournament will have men’s singles and doubles, women’s singles and doubles, and mixed doubles events. A total of 64 matches will be played on the opening day of the tournament, followed by 56 on the second and third day. There will be a host of preliminary rounds on the first three days, followed by semis and finals on August 24 and August 25 respectively.

Day 1

Day 1 of the action will witness all Indian MS stars in the fray - Kidambi Srikanth, Sameer Verma, Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy. Seventh seed Kidambi Srikanth will take on Ireland's Nhat Nguyen in his opening round clash. The duo has previously met only once, at last year's world championship where the Indian sealed an unblemished victory. Fellow Indians Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy will be looking to follow suit and get off to a winning start as they take on Canada's Jason Anthony Ho-shue and Finland's Eetu Heino respectively in the opener. Sameer Verma, who faced a pre-quarters exit last time around will be seeking to make amends and go the distance. Seeded 10th in the draw, Sameer takes on Loh Kean Yew of Singapore. The first day will also feature the young girl's duo of Meghana Jakkampudi and Poorvisha S Ram in action.

Day 2

The second day of the BWF World Championships features a good mix of experience and youth in the fray. While Sanyam Shukla, Arun George and Pooja Dandu will be looking to make their world championship debut, India's leading female shuttlers- Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu kickstart their campaign after enjoying a bye in the first round. Ashwini Ponnappa and Sikki Reddy will spearhead responsibilities in women's doubles while the experienced pair of Manu Attri/Sumeeth Reddy take the mantle forward in Men's doubles. Telecast

StarSports have the broadcasting rights of the BWF World Championships and can be watched on Star Sports 2 and Star Sports 2 HD on the match days. One can also stream the matches online on Hotstar. The initial rounds from August 19 to August 21 will start at 12.00 PM India time.
