Two-time silver medallist Sindhu showcased glimpses of her vintage self as she cruised past World No.10 Beiwen Zhang in straight sets 21-14, 21-6 to reach the quarterfinal bout of the tournament on Thursday. Zhang of the United States kept swinging between brilliance and avoidable unforced errors that led Sindhu to take the center stage before finally exiting with an overall thumping win. Sindhu showed her dominant form as she guided herself to quite an easy victory. Saina Nehwal looked to change gears in the pre-quarters game but was knocked out of the tournament as Mia Blichfeldt took the lead and sealed victory 15-21, 27-25, 21-12 to progress into the quarterfinal stage.

In the men’s singles category, Sai Praneeth dished out a scintillating performance to edge out World No.8 Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and advanced to the quarterfinals. Praneeth got the better of a helpless Ginting who struggled with the backhand and succumbed to a rampaging Praneeth. Ginting tried his best to claw his way into the game but an aggressive Praneeth took the game out of his grip 21-19, 21-13. His counterparts Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy, however, caused disappointment after suffering defeats to bow out of the seven-day tournament.

He will take on Indonesia’s Jonatan Christie in the men’s singles category while P V Sindhu will look to spearhead another challenge when she takes on Tai Tzu Ying, who is currently ranked second. Day 5 of the action awaits a mixture of scintillating action and nail-biting encounters with the fans waiting with baited breaths to catch the two shuttlers live in action.
