Badminton fans from around the world are witnessing a mixture of scintillating action and nerve-wracking encounters as the BWF World Championships have brought together the best shuttlers in the world competing for world supremacy. Around 400 of the world’s elite players have gathered in an attempt to clinch one of the five titles on offer in men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s doubles, women’s doubles, and mixed doubles category.

The Indian star shuttlers went in a with a renewed spirit to better the silver and bronze medals into the coveted yellow metal and stake their claim as a badminton powerhouse yesterday (Day 3), as the Indian contingent registered commanding victories over their opponents. While Olympic silver medallist PV Sindhu continued with her clinical form at the BWF World Championships after clinching a stellar straight-game victory over Pai Yu-Po of Chinese Taipei in the second round of the women's singles, it was later in the day that former silver medallist Saina Nehwal pulled down a helpless Netherlands' Soraya de Visch Eijbergen in the second round to open her campaign in style. Unlike Nehwal and Sindhu who crushed their opponents from the beginning only to exit with an overall thumping win, Kidambi could not tread on the same easy path. The Andhra Pradesh-native then forged a powerful attack on Misha Zilberman of Israel to beat him in a thrilling 13-21, 21-12, 21-16.

Day 4 of the action awaits a similar phase with the fans waiting with baited breaths to catch their favourite shuttlers live in action. All eyes will rest on the magical trio in men’s singles category, namely, Kidambi Srikanth, H S Prannoy, and Sai Praneeth. Seventh-seeded Kidambi will take on Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen. His Indian counterparts Sai Praneeth and HS Prannoy will be looking to follow suit and get off to a winning start as they take on Indonesia’s Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Japan’s top men’s seed Kento Momota respectively. Women counterparts on the other hand, after registering clinical victories on Day 3, Sindhu and Nehwal will look forward to spearhead responsibilities and continue their winning streak as they kickstart their Day 4 campaign. Sindhu will face ninth-seeded Zhang Beiwen while Saina takes on Danish shuttler Mia Blichfeldt.
