All three Indian athletes go out in the first round

While Avinash Sable set a new national record in the 3000m Steeplechase, the 26-year-old was unlucky as he was the 13th fastest and would've finished top if he was placed in heat 3. The performance of Avinash Sable will be a major positive as he was competing in his first Olympic Games.

However, the same cannot be said for MP Jabir and Dutee Chand as they didn't even achieve their personal best. MP Jabir finished last in his heat, while Dutee Chand finished seventh.
